How Much Does a Replacement Key Fob Cost?
Plan on roughly $99 to $400 all-in from a mobile locksmith, depending on the fob type. Programming an existing fob starts at $99; a full replacement with cutting and programming starts at $189. Push-to-start proximity fobs sit at the top of the range, basic transponder keys at the bottom. Dealers typically charge more and need the car brought in.
What moves the price
Three things: the fob hardware (a proximity smart fob costs several times what a basic chip key does), the programming complexity (some immobilizers take minutes, some take a full relearn cycle), and whether you still have a working key, since adding a spare is cheaper than an all-keys-lost job. Year and model matter more than brand: a 2014 remote-head key is a different job than a 2023 smart fob from the same maker.
The quote that matters
Whatever number you hear, get it as a flat total before anyone is dispatched. We quote that way on every call. The price includes the fob, the cutting, and the programming, and it does not change at the door.

Is it cheaper to buy a fob online and have it programmed?
Sometimes, but it is a gamble: many online fobs arrive locked to another VIN or are refurbished clones that fail programming. If you bring your own working blank we can usually program it from $99, but we cannot warranty hardware we did not supply.
Does a worn fob always need full replacement?
No. If the buttons are worn but the electronics are fine, a reshell or a battery costs far less than a new fob. We tell you which one you actually need.
